We were all impressed by the standard of the food which was provided at a very reasonable price.
The most popular items were the breadboards, while the larger items didn't sell. However, we still made a modest profit.
In the arena we saw some reconnaissance vehicles, a troop carrier and a centurion tank and a simulated skirmish with an invading force.. A couple of load bags, but no real firing! The museum itself was quite extensive and very interesting, with examples of tanks from the earlist onwards covering all the major countries. We could have spent more time there as there is a lot to see.
This will help us when applying for grants and other funding to support this new project.
We have also been given a 25.5 year lease on land behind the Terrapin building on the Church Rooms land in Colden Common, which is the planned location of the new shed.
Once the CIO status has been obtained, we will be applying for planning permission for the new shed. The Colden Common Shedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12777915580480200643noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368492892268863689.post-84366259438694163432016-04-27T03:12:00.001-07:002016-04-27T03:12:07.954-07:00New Shed ProjectNominated our project to build a new shed for The Colden Common Shed with the Jewson's Building Better Communities initiative. So we decided to build the saw into one of the benches so that the benchtop could support the aluminium saw table. After straightening some other part and fettling the interlock switch and blade guides, we now have an operational saw.
We thought we would start simply by making feathers, but it took some time to get the hang of cutting the necessary curves in the glass. The picture shows the end results from our mornings work.
After a meeting with the team a few weeks ago, we heard on Thursday that they have awarded us a grant for the purchase of some more equipment for the shed. The equipment to be purchased includes a planer/thicknesser and a belt & disc sander.
Adrian drove the Colden Common Community bus, with a full complement of 16 (including 2 wives).
We were on-site from just after 11:30 till 15:15, but found that this was not nearly enough time to see everything there.

We opted to have a tour, which proved to be very interesting and put Bletchley into a context which allowed a far better understanding of the work there.

The group tickets we got are actually an annual season ticket - I think most of the group will be taking advantage to return to see all the rest of the exhibitions that couldn't be fitted in on this visit.
With the new Trust that has been formed, the National Computing Museum at the park is now a separate enterprise but well worth a visit as well.

All in all, a very successful first outing and hopefully the first of many. The Colden Common Shedhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12777915580480200643noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2368492892268863689.post-54158513541009379172015-10-21T18:11:00.000-07:002015-10-23T04:10:29.641-07:00Cribbage EveningAn evening of Cribbage and conversation in the pavilion on Wednesday evening the 22nd.
